We are rapidly approaching the middle of 2010 so it seems as good a time as any to look at what trends are emerging or already in use by web designers. Web Design Trends for 2010 is a comprehensive article appearing in Webdesigner Depot that lists a wide range of trends and some excellent examples.
While some of these have been around for a while - large headings, minimalist designs, lots of whitespace; other old favourites have had a revamp. With the improving acceptance of CSS3 - rounded elements, drop shadows and opacity have become a lot simpler and more elegant to implement.
Typographic designs are becoming more of a reality thanks to the growing use of web fonts while the huge increase in the mobile web sees an inclusion of targetting designs to mobile devices. While these last two trends are exciting, it was this example of a fluid grid layout that most caught my attention.
It will be interesting to look back at this in a year and see if any of these have been superseded and how many have sneaked into our own portfolio.
